Amazon Alexa Link Skill Instructions

Link Skill

Alexa App

On selecting the Link Skill you will be redirected to the Insteon Login page to link the Link Skill with your Insteon account.

After you have successfully linked the Link Skill with your Insteon account, click the "Discover Devices" link for the Link Skill to find your configured FanLinc and I/OLinc devices.

Once your devices have been successfully discovered, they will appear in the Alexa App.  Now you will be able to control your devices with the following utterances.

For FanLinc

Assuming you have named your fan Bedroom Fan in your Insteon account, you can control it in the following way:

  • Alexa, turn bedroom fan on - turns on the fan light
  • Alexa, turn bedroom fan off - turns off the fan light
  • Alexa, set bedroom fan 100% - sets fan to high speed
  • Alexa, set bedroom fan 50% - sets fan to medium speed
  • Alexa, set bedroom fan 10% - sets fan to low speed
  • Alexa, set bedroom fan 0% - turns fan off

For I/OLinc (Garage Door Controller)

Assuming you have your I/OLinc controller controlling your Garage Door opener and you have named it Garage Door in your Insteon account, you can control it in the following way:

  • Alexa, turn garage door on - opens the garage door if it's closed
  • Alexa, turn garage door on - closes the garage door if it's open

I know this is a little weird, but these spoken command limitations are imposed on me by Amazon's SmartHome Skill framework.  I used the framework to produce this skill quickly.  I plan to eliminate these limitations in the future, and provide a more natural interface to these devices.  I also plan to support more devices, Insteon as well as others in upcoming releases.

If you have a feature request or a device that you would like supported, please email details to: dev@gordzilla.com

Gordon
